MAMMOTH HALF MARATHON

As I mentioned before, my sister is amazingly organized and so willing to help out when needed. She has always taken the initiative to make our training schedules and I am always willing to let her because she does such a wonderful job at doing it.

Our original plan was to run the LA Marathon for the third year in a row, however after careful consideration a spur of the moment race registration we will not be able to run the marathon in March this year. It was a bit of a difficult decision because I am the type of person who likes to do the same things. It's difficult for me to go outside of what I know.

This year the San Diego half marathon and the LA Marathon both ended up being on the same day, so a decision needed to be made. I had already decided to do the Mammoth Mountain half marathon in June, and the Mammoth half and San Diego half have a challenge. If you do both you get an additional medal. Extra bling! I just couldn't say no.

I also have a goal (which I will go into more later) of running a half marathon a month for the entire year of 2014. I am really lucky to be able to incorporate the races I have already signed up for into our training schedule, and what's better is that my sister has decided to join me for a few of the races next year. It definitely makes it easier to make it through the distance when you have someone running with you.

She and I are trying to get in as many training runs as we can together, but sometimes have to run alone (like this past weekend). It happens, but it's definitely easier and just all around a better time running with someone. Also, the bond that we have now after running together off and on for the past two years is something I would never trade for anything.

Having a training schedule, and especially having races to look forward to, makes it easier to stick to the plan. If I don't have a race lined up then I tend to make excuses to not go for a run, but when I am training I am (for the most part) going to stick to that schedule. I have participated in a race where I was not prepared and it was not a pleasant experience.
