This week did not go quite as I had planned. Last week I managed to get in (and enjoy) every workout I had scheduled. Even when there was a conflict, I rescheduled. This week I only completed one.
One workout out of seven scheduled.
Obviously not ideal since this is the second week back at it, but I can't sit here and be upset about it. It's over and done. I made a choice each of those days and what I chose was to make excuses.
As I sit here now thinking about this past week I can justify a few of the missed workouts. But I look back and think about all those endorphins I missed out on and realize that it's usually not worth skipping a workout just because you don't want to. Sometimes it is necessary to go when I don't want to because more often than not I will be thankful that I went.
The one workout I did get in was the 8 mile run on Saturday. Rachel and I were finally able to get in a long distance training run together. She planned the course and I picked her up at 6:20am. We drove to the starting point and began our run pretty close to 6:30am.
I was pretty nervous Friday night because my last long training run did not go as planned. The course was a little more difficult than I was prepared for and I did not fuel properly. Live and learn. However, a bad run does make me nervous for the next long run.
We decided to run 30:1 intervals because that's what Rachel has been running and it makes more sense to run her intervals. It helped a lot because it forced me to run slower and actually stick to the pace I needed to be at.

Saturday was also Patrick's and my one year anniversary.
One year ago we made a promise to each other to love one another through better or worse. I think in the course of the year we have both seen each other at our highest high and lowest low and there have been days where it has been a struggle. We are best friends though, and I wouldn't want to be fighting with or loved by anyone else.
In the past year we have started discussing our plans to buy a house within the next couple years, I have reached personal running goals (with Patrick's help and support along the way), I had wrist surgery, Patrick's preparing for neck surgery, I've gained over 20 pounds and he has lost close to that amount. We've gone on vacations, crossed some items off of my bucket list and decided that we would like to grow our family after we buy a house.
We've laughed, we've cried, we've smiled and we've screamed but through it all we did those things with love being our number one priority. We have some growing to do, but in the end we are best friends and that is an important part of it.
We decided to stay at a nearby inn in old town Camarillo. It was amazing and included a kitchen, two bedrooms, a huge bathtub, a balcony and a fireplace. We drove a little further north to Ventura where we did a little shopping and walked along the beach. It was quiet, child free and just what we needed. We've become very comfortable just staying home all the time that it was a nice reminder that we need to make the effort to get out every once and a while for a date night.
I wouldn't change anything about the past year (except maybe the 20 pound gain) and can only hope that the next year is just as good, if not better...
